Stability AI has officially unveiled Stable Audio 3.0, a powerful new suite of audio models capable of generating professional-grade music tracks exceeding six minutes in length. The release marks a significant leap in generative AI capabilities, promising superior musical structure and melodic consistency compared to its predecessors.
A New Tier of Generative Power
The Stable Audio 3.0 family consists of four distinct models tailored to different performance needs: small SFX (459M parameters), small (459M parameters), medium (1.4B parameters), and large (2.7B parameters). While the smaller variants are optimized for on-device generation of up to two minutes, the medium and large models can produce full-length compositions of 6 minutes and 20 seconds. This capability effectively doubles the generation limit seen in the Stable Audio 2.0 version released earlier in 2024.

Accessibility and Licensing
Stability AI is releasing the small SFX, small, and medium models with open weights, significantly expanding upon the 47-second generation limit introduced with the Stable Audio Open release last year. The large model, however, is restricted to API access and paid self-hosting services. Furthermore, Stability AI mandates an enterprise license for companies generating over $1 million in revenue.
As competitors like Suno and Udio face intense legal scrutiny over data scraping, Stability AI is emphasizing its commitment to legal compliance. The company asserts that its new models are built on fully licensed data, bolstered by strategic partnerships inked last year with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group.

Strategic Industry Hires
Stability AI is also pivoting toward the professional musician market. The company has brought on Ethan Kaplan, formerly of Universal Audio and Fender, to spearhead its professional music product offerings. This move aligns with a broader trend in the AI sector, as firms race to integrate industry veterans to navigate the complexities of the music business. Recent examples include Suno hiring former Merlin CEO Jeremy Sirota, and ElevenLabs appointing former Kobalt executive Derek Cournoyer as a strategy lead.
