Spotify is officially rolling out “Reserved by Spotify,” a strategic new system designed to protect dedicated music fans from scalpers. Announced this Thursday, the feature identifies an artist’s top listeners and secures two tour tickets for them before the general public sale begins. You can find more details in the official Spotify guide.
How the Superfan Access Works
Starting today, the feature is available to U.S.-based Premium subscribers aged 18 and older. The artist Role Model is the first partner to pilot this system. Eligible fans will receive notifications today for his upcoming tour, with the ability to secure their tickets starting June 23—well before the general sale. Spotify has confirmed that no additional fees will be charged on these specific transactions.

Current Limitations and Future Expansion
Currently, the program is exclusive to artists performing at Live Nation concerts, with ticket sales processed via Ticketmaster. However, the streaming giant intends to scale the service to include smaller venues and international users in the near future.
Combating Scalpers and Gaming the System
This initiative serves as a direct counter-measure to automated scalping tools that inflate prices by snatching up tickets instantly. For Spotify, it also functions as a powerful incentive to drive Premium subscriptions. By rewarding genuine engagement, the company hopes to keep users active within the app.
To prevent users from “gaming” the system, Spotify will analyze diverse data points, such as streams and shares, to verify authentic fan behavior. The company explicitly warned that simply playing an artist on repeat in the background will not provide an advantage, as the algorithm looks for natural, human-like activity. Additionally, the system verifies the user’s location to ensure the concert is geographically relevant before extending a ticket offer.
The User Experience
Once eligible, fans will see a personalized offer on their Spotify Home screen. This interface allows them to view tour dates, check the reservation window, and set purchase reminders. When the window opens—typically lasting 24 hours—the user can secure their two tickets. Spotify noted that because demand often exceeds supply, not every top fan will receive an offer for every show.
Role Model’s 17-city U.S. tour is just the beginning of a larger rollout planned for this week. This new ticketing feature complements Spotify’s ongoing investments in live music, including the recently added support for uploading live performance videos to the platform.
