From Data Hub to AI Enterprise
Owned by Whip Media, the app boasted over 26.4 million lifetime installs, according to data from Appfigures, with nearly 29,000 new downloads in the last 30 days alone. Previously, the app served as a vital data engine for Whip Media’s business intelligence ecosystem, meaning its profitability as a standalone consumer product was secondary to the insights it provided.
However, the company’s trajectory shifted significantly after it was acquired by direct lender Blue Torch Capital in early 2025. Under this new leadership, the focus moved away from sentiment analysis and audience ratings toward more aggressive, AI-driven profitability.
The Future of Helix
Whip Media is now emphasizing its AI-powered automation and workflow tool, Helix. This platform is designed to optimize streaming analytics and supply chain orchestration, which the owners view as a more lucrative path than maintaining a massive fan-facing application.
The decision not to sell the popular app—which still saw consistent usage—remains a point of speculation. Industry analysts suggest that the owners may have wanted to prevent competitors from gaining access to the valuable data sets the app generated. Furthermore, Appfigures noted a slowdown in download growth during the first half of the year.
Whip Media confirmed that all user data collected through TV Time will be deleted once the service ends and will not be utilized for future commercial purposes. Users have until July 15 to export their information via a GDPR-compliant export tool before the app is scrubbed from digital storefronts.
