Netflix has officially confirmed a $587 million cash acquisition of InterPositive, an AI-driven filmmaking startup co-founded by actor and director Ben Affleck. The figures, disclosed in a new regulatory filing, finally clarify the financial scope of the deal, which was previously reported by outlets like Variety.
The Vision Behind InterPositive
When the acquisition was first announced in March, Affleck emphasized that the technology is intended to “protect the power of human creativity.” The startup’s proprietary AI tools are designed to streamline post-production workflows, specifically addressing common logistical hurdles such as missing footage, the need for background replacements, or correcting inconsistent lighting in real-world production environments.
Integration and Strategic Value
As part of the acquisition agreement, the entire InterPositive team has transitioned to Netflix, with Affleck stepping into the role of senior advisor. While the initial announcement omitted specific monetary details, the $587 million valuation aligns closely with earlier projections from Bloomberg, which estimated the deal could reach as high as $600 million.
Scaling AI in Streaming
This investment underscores Netflix’s aggressive integration of machine learning into its content pipeline. According to the company’s most recent earnings report, approximately 300 Netflix titles have already utilized generative AI technologies throughout this year.
