Google officially unveiled the Fitbit Air this Thursday, a screenless, Whoop-style wearable priced at $100. Designed for comprehensive health tracking, the device monitors 24/7 heart rate, blood oxygen levels, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep stages, while also providing critical alerts for atrial fibrillation (A-fib).
Minimalist Design for Constant Wear
In a recent blog post, the tech giant emphasized that the Fitbit Air caters to users who find traditional wearables overly bulky, complex, or expensive. The company describes the device as “simple, affordable and comfortable enough to wear 24/7.” By removing the screen, Google intends for users to “live in the moment” while still capturing essential biometric data through the newly rebranded Google Health app.
The device is significantly more compact than its predecessors, boasting a 25% smaller profile than the Fitbit Luxe and a 50% reduction in size compared to the Inspire 3. The system is designed to automatically detect workouts and activities, utilizing machine learning to offer a personalized experience that adapts to individual habits over time.

Technical Specifications and Ecosystem Integration
Weighing just 12 grams with the band (and 5.2 grams without), the Fitbit Air is built for high-intensity movement and comfort. Google highlights that the device pairs seamlessly with the Pixel Watch, allowing users to leverage the watch’s advanced features during the day and transition to the lighter Air for sleep tracking or workouts.
In terms of durability and performance, the device offers up to a week of battery life, with a fast-charging capability that provides a full day of use in only five minutes. It is also water-resistant up to 50 meters.
AI-Powered Coaching and Customization
Alongside the hardware, Google introduced the Google Health Coach. Powered by Gemini, this all-in-one fitness and wellness advisor is available to Google Health Premium subscribers. It provides customized workout routines based on available equipment, tracks health goals, and offers deep analysis of sleep habits.
The Fitbit Air launches with three distinct band styles: the breathable “Performance Loop Band” made from recycled materials, the waterproof “Active Band,” and the “Elevated Modern Band.” Preorders are open now, with a general retail release scheduled for May 26.
