Facebook is rolling out a suite of major updates today, headlined by a dedicated “Seller” app for Marketplace and a new, free identity verification system. These changes, which also include an immersive video interface, are designed to boost platform engagement and streamline user experience across Dating, Marketplace, and Groups.
A New Dedicated App for Marketplace Sellers
With more than 1.1 billion active users and over 430 million monthly listings, Marketplace remains a primary driver for younger demographics on the platform. To capitalize on this, Facebook is introducing “Seller,” a standalone application tailored for frequent power users. This tool allows sellers to efficiently manage their inventory, communicate with prospective buyers, and monitor item performance.

Introducing ‘Facebook Verified’
To combat impersonation and build trust, Meta is launching “Facebook Verified,” a free system designed to confirm users are real people. This is distinct from the paid “Meta Verified” subscription service. Users can verify their identity by taking a selfie, which then grants them a verification badge—a check mark inside a white circle—displayed on their profile across Facebook Dating, Marketplace, and Groups.

Immersive Video Experience
Additionally, Facebook is testing an optional, full-screen immersive video interface that activates upon opening the app. This feature is currently rolling out to international markets with high video consumption, with a U.S. launch scheduled for next year. Users retain the ability to disable this interface to return to the traditional feed-based view, similar to tests previously conducted on Instagram.

AI Integration and Future Strategy
Meta continues to accelerate its pace of app development to target specific user behaviors. Following the recent releases of the Reddit-like “Forum” app for Groups and the “Pocket” vibe-coding app, the company plans to integrate artificial intelligence into the Seller app. This AI will assist users in automating tasks such as drafting item descriptions and navigating group discussions to provide helpful answers.
