Newsletter platform Beehiiv is officially entering the podcasting space, launching native hosting, distribution, and monetization tools directly within its ecosystem. This strategic expansion allows creators to manage their entire audio strategy—from publishing episodes to tracking listener analytics—without leaving the Beehiiv platform.
A Natural Evolution for Creators
“Podcasting was an obvious move,” Beehiiv co-founder and CEO Tyler Denk told TechCrunch in an email. “Fundamentally, newsletters and podcasts have massive overlap. Both are typically episodic, long-form content, distributed to an owned audience, monetized via sponsorship. Our roadmap is heavily driven by our customers. They’ve told us that they really want to consolidate all of their tools into Beehiiv, and podcasting specifically has been requested consistently across customers of all sizes.”
With thousands of existing users already managing podcasts on external platforms, Beehiiv is positioning itself as an all-in-one hub for creators. This move intensifies the competition with challenging Patreon and Substack, both of which have long supported podcasts. This launch builds upon the company’s recent suite of tools for website creation and advanced analytics.
The Battle for Creator Revenue
The platform landscape is becoming increasingly crowded. As Beehiiv moves into audio, rivals are diversifying: Substack is aggressively courting video and podcast creators, while Patreon has been working to attract newsletter writers with long-awaited feature upgrades. As previously reported, this shift marks a significant escalation in the creator economy wars.
Beehiiv is betting on a “zero-fee” strategy to lure creators away from competitors. Unlike Substack, which takes a 10% cut of revenue, or Patreon, which takes 8%, Beehiiv allows creators to keep 100% of their earnings. Creators can bundle audio content with existing newsletter subscriptions, offering private feeds, exclusive episodes, and early access to premium members.
Building a Unified Creator Ecosystem
Beehiiv plans to extend its advertising network to serve dynamic ads within podcasts. To support this growth, the company is currently hiring a Head of Podcasts. Early adopters include shows like Genshe, 505 podcast, The Rebooting Show, Sweat Equity, The Most Important Question, and Lunch with Jamie.
“We believe a newsletter should be a core piece of infrastructure for any podcast,” Denk said. “Growth is one of the biggest challenges in podcasting. Newsletters drive podcast downloads. Podcasts drive newsletter signups. The two reinforce each other, and right now creators are managing that across fragmented tools. We’re fixing that.”
Technical Capabilities and Analytics
Creators can upload audio in MP3, M4A, or WAV formats. Beehiiv handles distribution to major platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast, and Castro. Each episode is automatically transcribed to improve search discoverability and is hosted on an SEO-optimized web page, keeping listeners within the creator’s ecosystem.
The platform’s analytics suite adheres to IAB standards, offering deep insights into listener demographics, including geography, device type, and app usage. This data is available in real-time, providing creators with a granular view of their performance.
Since its founding in 2021, Beehiiv has seen rapid growth, fueled by a $33 million Series B round in April 2024. As Denk recently highlighted, Q1 2026 was the company’s strongest quarter to date, with $4.5 million in new ARR and a user base exceeding 50,000 active creators.
